Training: Solving Financial Markets Frauds Using Creative Math & Accounting Analytics
Holiday Networking Reception

Financial Fraud Whistleblower Investigations, Buffet Lunch and Holiday Networking

Attend the first-ever combined event of the Greater Boston Chapters of the ACFE and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)

Part 1: Training Session: Solving Financial Markets Frauds using Creative Math & Accounting Analytics

Presenters:  Harry Markopolos, CFA, CFE and Bryan Wood, Esq

About the Training:

The largest financial frauds are hiding in plain sight. Because they’re big, lots of people know about them but don’t know how they get so big in the first place. The victims assume that because the perpetrator is so large that it surely must be legitimate.  So what are the fraudsters doing to beat all of the gatekeepers?

This four-hour block of instruction will take you behind the scenes of how to solve large billion dollar plus fraud schemes and the techniques used to solve these cases including:

- Why it’s easy to catch accounting frauds and why the only folks who never seem to catch accounting frauds are the Big 4
- How do fraudsters beat your internal controls?
- Are checklists good, bad or just used incorrectly?
- Coming up with Fraud theories and creating your own math analytical techniques to prove/disprove your fraud theories and solve cases
- Big Data: Is it a myth?  How many frauds does Big Data catch?
- How the essence of a Big Fraud be solved on one side of a cocktail napkin
- How reading the prospectus or the financial statements really does solve fraud cases.
- Filing cases under the SEC/CFTC/IRS/DOJ whistleblower programs - which programs are for what and how do you file a successful case and not suffer whistleblower retaliation?
- Big frauds are by definition almost always led by the C-Suite with internal controls easily bypassed.  What do you do when you find out your company is the next Enron?
- Why do 80% of whistleblower cases fail miserably?
- What are the elements that go into proving a successful fraud case?
